To make it easier for the kitchen novice, pictures are included of many of the dishes and for the more experienced chef you can give your take on many of the healthy dishes. The book takes you from the beginning of the meal until the end, with easy to prep appetizers and delicious desserts...and of course entrees to die for. This would make for a great gift for someone new to the kitchen or someone who just wants to shake things up a bit. Ladies, we must move away from the salads and grilled chicken breast at some point...while still being healthy of course, and with the help of this cookbook, why not do it today?

The Spotlight: FABO

FABO (Fabulous Art Buying Opportunity) is a spot like no other in Charlotte. Located on Selwyn Avenue, this shop works with local artists to sell their artwork, handmade pottery, jewelry and more. In addition, FABO sells coffee, tea, wine, bite size snacks and more. FABO is not only a coffee shop (for lack of a better word) but also a gallery of sorts showcasing the work of local artists, all of which are are for sale. While sipping your cafe mocha or picking at your snickerdoodle cookie, you are immersed in the creativity that fills the room.

Owner, Amy Aussieker always loved artwork and traditional galleries but says her idea for FABO came about when she had a hard time affording those pieces in traditional art galleries. "There are so many fabulous artists that don't have the resume to get into some of the bigger galleries but they have wonderful affordable artwork" said Aussieker. Currently she is featuring approximately 20 artists with varied styles and techniques. "One of my favorite parts of my job is when I get to call a new artist and tell them one of their pieces sold" said Aussieker.

Amy also enjoys chatting with customers as they peruse artwork, stroll in for a meeting or grab a cup of joe. "I feel like I am constantly hosting a party" Aussieker gushed about her loyal customers.

Speaking of parties, FABO will be having one this Sunday and it is sure to be a treat. It's the FABO's Fabulous Under $50.00 Shopping Event taking place this Sunday, December 4th from 3-6pm. This spectacular day is the peanut butter and jelly of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sandwich...and it's the bread and butter of most small businesses.

Johnny Depp gifted a Chevrolet Corvette convertible

Actor Johnny Depp's latest movie, The Rum Diary is now in theatres and as a thank you for his hard work on set, Producer Graham King gifted JP with a 1959 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. It is the same one used in the movie--see pic below courtesy of the National Corvette Museum.

When asked by USA Today why give JP such a supreme gift, King simply said "He worked so hard on the film and why not?" King says. He goes on to say that Depp "was pretty blown away by it". Who wouldn't be?

Gift Tip #90: Thanksgiving Platters

Gobble gobble! Thanksgiving is near and I am already thinking of the dinner that surpasses all dinners--the Thanksgiving feast! I am excited to spend Thanksgiving with a very good friend of mine and her family. I was able to attend their dinner last year and one of the things that I LOVED that they did was go around the dinner table and share what each of them were thankful for. Let me tell you, 2010 was a big year for my friend and you could tell how it affected her family. I was so blessed to share in that day with them. Another tradition that the family has is making sure the dinner is yummy deliciousness...last year they nailed it! The matriarch of the family reminds me of my great grandmother....she throws down in the kitchen! Everyone's favorite dishes were represented and there were platters of food for all to enjoy. Laura James of laura james jewelry is not only a talented designer of bracelets, necklaces, rings and everything in between she is one of the sweetest people I have interviewed for HoneeBee Gifts. James, who provides jewelry to television and movie sets, whose work has been featured in national publications such as People StyleWatch says that she "just wants to make people smile". Her one of a kind jewelry does just that!
Growing up, Laura was inspired by her aunt (an artist herself) and her Dad, who at an early age took her to gem & mineral shows in their hometown. It was going to these shows that peaked her interest in fine gems and stones and you can see the inspiration in her work. At 10 years old, she would use her fathers tools to take apart jewelry and create something new.
Her inspiration comes from traveling, nature, European fashion and Barneys NYC.When she's not feeling inspired she will work on her craft in another way, by studying trends. From our conversation, she seems to be such a go-getter with a streak of adventure. For example, she and two girlfriends would always take trips together and on a whim they decided to choose between three cities to live in for a few years and "move on". Well--the city that won out was Charlotte...then unexpectedly she and her friends met their husbands here and Charlotte got lucky with having a talent like Laura in its midst for longer that she and her friends expected.
Laura began her business in 2005 and opened a brick & mortar store in 2009. The store allows for more accessibility for Charlotte dwellers--and comes with a few other perks such as stopping in and seeing the artist at work. What a luxury! James loves having input from her customers and I know alot of giftees who would enjoy having a handmade, one of a kind piece from a world-renowned artisan. A gift from James is something that can be passed down through many generations. It can also be a piece that you (or your giftee) wears every day or on special occasions. Cake Pops are literally what they say they are...think of a lollipop but instead of candy on top there is delicious cake to bite into! Yes, please! This concept is new to the bakery industry and gives you just enough to calm down your sweet tooth.

Bramia's Sweets & Treats specializes in these bite-size treats that come in various flavors including carrot to butter pecan. In addition, this sweet shop does something that I have not seen done with any other cake pops--they can add alcohol to the treats. Yes, that's right you can have mojito, pina colada or Jamaican rum cake pop if you so desire. I think this is a great twist on this new concept.

These delicious desserts would be a great gift for a birthday party or some other celebration...I should know I had the french vanilla and chocolate dipped in oreo cake pops at my blog launch party.

As if I wasn't excited enough for my blog party, now I am even more excited about the aftermath! Everyone shared that they had a great time and I have made a few great connections (keep em coming!) as a result of the party. I’m always looking for new and different ways to experience an evening or night out. I’d heard a little about The Wine Palette since it opened in June in Plaza Midwood, and I finally got the chance to check it out Saturday when a friend and fellow blogger had a party.

Simone McDowell, of HoneeBee Gifts, threw a party to celebrate the redesign of her blog. The Wine Palette hosts private events, so Simone welcomed about thirty of her friends and fellow bloggers, and we had the place to ourselves from 5-8 p.m.

My HoneeBee Gifts Blog Launch Party was a success! To me, that means people came, had a good time and I was able to talk to guests about my blog and share the newly designed site. As a bonus, I was even able to create my own masterpiece. To sum things up, I feel happy and blessed!

I could not have maintained my sanity were it not for a few fab friends who brainstormed with me, helped me set up, stuffed swag bags and simply gave me their support. To each of you, I am grateful!

I would also like to thank The Wine Palette. The Wine Palette was the perfect place to host my party and I thank owners Neha and Monika for their support. If you have not tried this place out, you must--mention HoneeBee Gifts and they may give you a discount:)

Gift giving should not be stressful and I am here to share a few tips on how to have a stress-free gifting season...which is all year round! Happy Shopping!

Gather gift ideas all the time: The best way to not be stressed is to gather ideas throughout the year. Take notes (mental or written) on what you see others glancing at, noticing and talking about. These items will give

you clues when it's time for gift giving.

Keep your budget in mind: Before hitting any boutique or store, know what you want to spend and be strict about it. If you go over budget, it will only make you resent the gift receiver....and it doesn't do anything for your bank account.

When you see it, buy it: If you come across the perfect gift for someone, purchase it right then and there. It's best to house the item in your gift closet until their birthday/anniversary, etc comes around rather than waiting to purchase. Odds are if you come back it won't be there and you'll always think "What if'?

If I were a celeb, I think I'd be as excited to go to the gift lounges/suites as much as the actual award show! For those not familiar, gift lounges/suites are areas set up with the latest, most original and/or sought after items (i.e. swag) that range from on-site spa services to baby gear to jewelry and more.
They are set up prior to all the major award shows and welcome celebrities, nominees, writers and producers to check out a candyland of gifts. Gift Tip #85: Gourmet Blends Balsamic Vinegars

These are not your average balsamic vinegars--they boast to be the best and so far I have not found any that can argue with that. These vinegars are barrel aged in Italy and then shipped to Napa Valley (yes--wine country) to be blended and bottled. You can choose from traditional balsamic vinegars to other flavors including black current, pomegranate and more. I am currently in love with the rasberry flavor. While I have used it in my salads, these vinegars can also be paired with fresh fruit, ice cream, meats and more. They would be a great gift for a health conscious friend (did you know that the products contain no sugar, msg, etc), foodie or someone who loves all things gourmet.

Gourmet Blends are not found in stores but are located online, local farmer's markets and special events. Busy, busy, busy--that's us, right? Truly, that is the society we live in and I wanted to share a "to-do" that will make life easier in the long run--having a gift closet. A gift closet (or drawer or cabinet) is a place to stash gifts that can be given at a moments notice. These would be a gift that would suit a variety of people (teacher, family friend, relative or neighbor) but still has your special touch on it. Some items that would be a good fit for a gift closet include candles, stationary/notecards, books, wine and more. To ensure that your special touch is seen in every item, you must pick presents that you have tried and loved, cannot live without or is simply one of your favorite things. Everyone that receives the gift will feel that you chose something you enjoy and thought they would too....and you arrive carrying the gift like the calm, poised person you are. No one ever needs to know that you pulled the item from your sanity..errr...secret stash!

Acts of Faith is a one of those books you can have on your shelf for a lifetime and every time you open it up, you learn something new. This book is filled with thoughtful and inspirational quotes and affirmations. A few years ago there were rumors of Jay-Z doing a book...an autobiography and I thought that would be too good to be true. I heard nothing more for some time and was disappointed...now let's fast forward to the end of last year. What?! A book by Jay-Z? I had been "burned" before so I did not want to get too excited but this time it was true! Jay-Z's book dropped in October 2010, not an autobiography but if possible--even better. Why? Because he was breaking down the lyrics in some of his top charting (and fan favorite) hits. To make things even better, he shares personal moments like meeting Bono for the first time, his relationship with Memphis Bleek (who simply but is his homeboy and fellow rapper) and his one on one meeting with President Barack Obama. The book includes photos of NYC, the rapper's influences and more.

You would think this would be a book only for Jay-Z fans but I beg to differ. It is more philosophical that some Psych 101 classes and I think that's why it caught the eye of Oprah and many others--it was one of the Top 5 on the New York Best Sellers list! This would be a great gift for any book lover, hip hop aficionado or anyone who wants insight into Jay's world/mind. HOVA! HOVA!

Want to become your own Romare Bearden...or get to know your creative side a bit better? Why not give it a go with The Wine Palette (TWP)?
TWP is a locally owned company who wants you to express yourself through art. The concept is simple--enjoy a sip of wine while creating your own masterpiece! Being an amateur painter myself I love this concept...and what isn't better with a glass of vino? You are allowed to bring your own wine to the party, and food if you'd like too. The owners, Neha Negandhi and Monika Shah (who also happen to be sisters!) want to make the environment just right for all their customers and they truly go the extra mile.
When I visited the studio they were hosting Raise Your Palette Night where they partner with a local charity and 50% of all proceeds made that evening go towards the charity. That evening's beneficiary was Promising Pages, a local non-profit group who provides books and literary programs to children in need. Neha welcomed all the attendees to the event and Monika was the paparazzi of the evening, taking photos of the guests. In addition to Raise Your Palette events, TWP hosts private events (why not blow out your birthday candles at TWP?) and will even come to your office for team building opportunities with your employers.

While having your social painting experience, there is an instructor that walks you through creating your artwork, step by step so there is no reason to be intimidated. There are various designs that can be created such as landscapes, guitar, zen tree, etc and all are posted on their online calendar.

When it was just an idea

When speaking with Neha she shared how The Wine Palette was born. Her first "sip and paint" experience was with friends in Atlanta. She literally had not picked up a paintbrush since she was 5 years old but felt so accomplished after putting the finishing touches on her painting with her friends. She loved the idea and had a great time doing it. She called her sister, Monika that night to share how much fun she had. When her sister came to visit she took her to the same sip and paint place, along with a friend to experience it firsthand. After that visit, the sisters really began to think about the idea of creating their own sip and paint place. Neha said she and Monika "just kept talking (about it)". She went on to say that the idea "took hold of us, it wouldn't leave us". The idea was born in January and now seven months later it is a reality".

While Neha said that owning a business is all consuming and like birthing a child, she still walks in the building, sister by her side and they look around and say "I can't believe I created this". What a wonderful feeling!

Gift this experience

The Wine Palette would be a great experience for the wannabe artist, anyone creative or someone with a keen eye for design, or so they think. Taking it a step further, I could see this as a great date night...a guy taking a girl to TWP would get extra points for gifting such a unique experience, don't you think? This could also be a fun Girl's Night Out or an impromptu drop-in after a stroll down Central Avenue.

fitbook is a 12 week journal that allows you to track your exercise and nutrition. It is very detailed and can be used by the seasoned fitness pro or a novice. There is a page dedicated to your exercise (breaking down strength training, cardio, flexibility) and food log, which includes a nutrient tracker. It even shares the top three tips on how to best use your fitbook, food log guide, sample workout and food log pages.

fitbook is a great gift for someone trying to get back on the health and fitness track, the fitness nut (I say that lovingly) that is bored with their current fitness gadgets and anyone who likes to plan their action steps for fitness and keep a running log. It can also be used for someone who has a routine but wants to document it more carefully for maximum results.

Experience: Southern Cake Queen Mobile Cupcakery

This is a dream come true for me- delicious cupcakes that could greet me at my door, by way of a cute pink truck, no less! According to their website, Southern Cake Queen (SCQ) Mobile Cupcakery made its first stop on February 19th in the NODA neighborhood. I first met Owner Emma Merisier at one of her special "stops" during an event at a local boutique. She was bubbly, personable and ready to sell some cupcakes. She did not have to twist my arm--her lemon cupcake was delish!
Giftwise, I could see Emma's truck pulling up to a kiddie birthday party where children gather around for one of her rainbow (vanilla cake w/vanilla buttercream topped with sprinkles) cupcakes or a family reunion or cookout where Pina Colada cupcakes are served to the crowd. Who wouldn't be impressed by their party having its own cupcake service?

The Spotlight: Shecky's Girls Night Out

When a friend invited me to Shecky's Girls Night Out I was so excited...and happy to hear that Charlotte "made it" as one of Shecky's selected cities. In addition, I thought this would be a great event to highlight for HoneeBee. What girlfriend wouldn't want a ticket (not to mention a coveted goodie bag) to one of the most fun events around? Such a great gift and bonding experience for friends, right in our own backyard!

My first Shecky's experience was driving to Atlanta to check out this fab event. HoneeBee was pretty new and I thought the event would give me great gift ideas, not to mention inspiration to keep the blog going. I had a great time...from the variety of vendors and items for purchase, free drinks and jam-packed goodie bag. I have high hopes that Charlotte's event will be similar...or even better!

With this being the 10th anniversary I have been assured from Cait, Shecky's Content Manager that they will continue with these traditions but add in special deals, sweepstakes and more to celebrate ten years of bringing girlfriends together for good ole' fashioned fun! At the Charlotte event be on the lookout for local artisans to nationally-recognized brands selling everything from accessories to beauty products to shoes!

When I asked Cait how often Shecky's comes to town, she said "sometimes it's once year, sometimes more than once or seasonally...it all depends and varies by year, which is always fun." I definitely want Shecky's to come to Charlotte more often than not so be sure to get your ticket and check out the event this Wednesday, June 8th at The Big Chill from 5pm-10pm. The Big Chill is located on 911 E. Morehead Street (S. McDowell St). When you purchase a ticket, Shecky's will donate $5 to The American Red Cross disaster relief efforts for the southern region of the country.
