Giving the Gift of Art: try an up and coming artist

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend Studio Party 12: Sensory Explosion, an annual fundraising gala for the McColl Center for Visual Arts where many current students and alumni of the center shared their original artwork with over 300 guests. The artwork showcased was available for purchase that night and a wide variety of work was highlighted at the event. Being a lover of the arts, of course I enjoyed myself but it also got me thinking about art as a gift. If you know an art lover, an original piece of work from an up and coming artist would be such a special gift.  During Studio Party 12, many artists were present at the event to discuss their work and many purchases were made. To read more about the Studio Party 12 event, please see my full article via Charlotte Style Magazine, where I go into more details, as well as share a few photos.

It was one of the most laid back fundraising events I have been too in quite some time. In addition, the event gave artists exposure, allowed attendees access to new works and the artists themselves. While we are lucky to have the McColl Center for Visual Arts in Charlotte, as well as the Studio Party 12 special event, there are many other events and options for connecting with local artists. Some routes include connecting through traditional art galleries, visiting  an artist's site via Etsy or maybe even eBay.

As I always say, art is very personal so when you are making such a purchase, please be sure to know your giftee and what he/she may like most.

Sweet Gift Giving: HoneeBee Gifts by Charlotte Style Magazine

I am usually the one behind the pen but a few months ago I spoke with the publisher of Charlotte STYLE Magazine about my blog and after a few chats to learn more about HoneeBee Gifts she expressed interest in conducting an article on me and my blog. Oh happy day!! I was so excited to conduct my first print interview on HoneeBee Gifts! I knew this would be a great opportunity to get the word out and share my thoughts on how my blog came to be, where I'd like to be in five years, as well as a few signature gift tips that I practice daily. Below is a blurb of the article. I would like to give special thanks to photographer GQ Lewis and Makeup Artist Nalini Eldridge. They made me look good! See full article here.

Just wanted to share this shopping event taking place this Saturday!
Get ready to shop, shop, shop, all in the name of charity!
Charlotte’s Day of STYLE is a city-wide shopping initiative that encourages Charlotteans to shop for a cause. For one day Charlotteans turn into socialites and attend the hottest boutique and in-store events to shop, mix, and mingle all in the name of charity.

The event benefits Levine Children’s Hospital. The Hospital leads the region in offering more than 30 specialized pediatric services including kidney, liver and heart transplants, blood and marrow transplant, cardiac and cancer care, neurosurgery, rehabilitation service, and the highest designated level of neonatal intensive care.

Boutiques such as Jordanos Men’s & Women’s Boutique, Fresh Boutique and A Step Back in Time Vintage are the first to be announced as participating locations.
